These characters do add a bit more flavour to the world and its largely homogenous population of NPCs you’re clearly not intended to look at too closely. These later stages are where the majority of Spider-Man 2’s thrills lay, however, as it really hits its stride late on, and emphatically wraps up a tale with miles of emotional depth that never once threatens to peter out. Speaking of boss battles, that’s one area that takes a noticeable step up from our initial tangos with Kingpin, Vulture, and the rest. Mavel’s Spider-Man 2 hits PC on Thursday, January 30 to let even more players take control of Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they swing around New York City, battling villains and unlocking tons of suits. Of all the enemies that Peter Parker and Miles Morales face in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, few are as terrifying and relentless as Venom. Powered by an extraterrestrial symbiote, the villain threatens all of Marvel’s New York over the course of the game and pushes the Spider-Men to the very limit. The fight with Venom is especially personal for Peter, both through his own experiences with the symbiote and whom the symbiote has since bonded with, delivering his greatest challenge as a hero. This a dedicated section for the small number of suits that are specifically tied to and/or unlocked within the main story, and therefore are inherently spoilers for certain plot developments or reveals.
It soundtracks a world that looks stunning, even when played in performance mode at a stable 60fps as I did for most of my playthrough. Rewards for completing these various activities vary, with some ranging from genuinely exciting story teases for what’s to come, to simply gaining some tech parts to upgrade your abilities with. The tasks are often so mundane and repetitive, however, that I did frequently question whether these small, congratulatory nuggets were worth the slog they too often turned out to be. To their credit, the way you can highlight side objectives by pressing the right stick is a welcome upgrade over mere icons on a map. Even without that, you can spot ominous clouds or glowing purple rooftops with the bare eye signaling activities are there to be found.
Unfortunately, Shocker is one of Kraven’s victims, and among the first characters to die at Kraven the Hunter’s hands. While it is unclear if the games will follow this route, the introduction of Cindy does tease the potential for yet another Spidey to join the fight. When she first meets Peter in the comics, he notes that while she is not as strong as him, she is faster. She also has the power to shoot webs out of her hands and a stronger variation of Peter’s Spidey Sense, known as Silk Sense. Other than these small differences, she possesses the exact same powers as Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. That’s a great shame for PC players, who are still holding out hope for a port of the title in the near future.
Spider-Bot can be found in the South-West area of the Upper East Side district. It’ll be on the side of a building right on the street that divides the Upper East Side from Central Park. Head for Avengers Tower (the tall skyscraper with the red A on it), then check the buildings just West of it. The Spider-Bot will be here on the North face of one of the brick buildings. It’s a game about web-slinging and fistfights, sure, but it’s also about sacrifice and redemption, and every mile of its gorgeously-textured New York teems with human stories that redefine what heroism means. Notably, the lowest requirements for ray tracing will guarantee PC users can take advantage of the Spider-Man title’s stunning lighting and reflections, all while visuals and performance continue to impress. Players who can meet the sequel’s higher system specs will, of course, enjoy an experience with much better image quality, while still maintaining a high framerate.
